Do's and Don'ts of Design…Furniture

DO Have one dramatic element that commands your immediate attention.
This could be an architectural element (such as a fireplace) or a unique piece of furniture.

DON'T
Place all your furniture against the wall.

Experiment with angles and avoid the urge to line everything up on a right angle.

DO
Measure the arm height of your sofa or chair before purchasing a side table.
Make sure the table height is equal to, or less than, the arm height of the seating piece it will be next to.

DON'T Forget to take a look around your home before you shop. Inventory your existing items with an open mind.
A night stand in the Guest Room might make the perfect end table in the Living Room. The artwork over your bed might look fabulous in the Kitchen. Don't be afraid to think outside the box, or room, as the case may be.

"Tea time" was always something I shared with my Mom & Grandma. We could sit for hours talking about our day over a warm cup of tea. I love this adorable tea set from Pier 1 for only $18.75.

Every Mom needs a little "ME" time (and being a brand new Mom, I can attest...). This great bath caddy from Chiasso might just do the trick! Check out the wine glass holder - pretty brilliant :)

Do's and Don'ts of Design…Accessories

DO Group objects by similarities.
For example: color, shape, and motif.

DON’T Always place items in a straight line.
Vary the depth when possible.

DO Mix and match eclectic pieces to create visual interest.
A few ethnic inspired pieces paired with contemporary pieces will liven up a stale space.

DON’T
Overdo the accessorizing.

Too many items will start to appear cluttered and overwhelming. Remember, “Less is More”.

Do's and Don'ts of Design…Artwork

DO Lay out the arrangement of the artwork on the floor before hanging it on the wall.

DON’T Hang artwork more than 6”-9” above furniture pieces.
This will allow your artwork to visually coordinate with your furniture pieces.

PROPER ART PLACEMENT

DO Unify a mixture of art themes by coordinating framing styles.

DON'T
select artwork solely based on the colors in your room - select artwork you will LOVE to look at each and every day.
